TV Show

Our task is to create a TV show, using the commissioning process on the channel 4 website as guide lines.

First idea:

My TV show idea is about an astronaut who has always wanted to go into space and when he finally has the chance to, he is faced with all the negatives he’d never thought of before- his spaceship fails prolonging his travel, his team mate gets sick in space so inevitably dies, and once he returns back to earth he realises earth is no longer the planet he left behind. We are all aware of how technology changes at an alarming rate- we could buy a brand new phone that is totally unique but then in a couple of months- even weeks, there would be a better phone available for a cheaper price. So what if you were in space for a year or two, when you returned technology could have changed so much. The first generation I-Phone was released in 2007 and now in 2013 there are eight different iPhones.

So the commissioning process is used by large organisations such as the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV and is simply  the process of employing a company to produce a piece of work for another company. The commissioning process varies for different mediums- Television is different to radio, ect. A broadcaster, like the BBC, will not commission an idea from an individual, the idea has to be proposed through a company.

Final Idea:

My final idea for a TV Show is a documentary based on Technology and how it has adapted through the years. I personally find it fascinating how technology changes so quickly, which is why both of my ideas were based around technology.

The target audience for my show would be Elderly people. I created a questionnaire online and discovered that most people thought that this audience was not being reached. I personally felt like this was a gap in the market since most elderly people are retired therefore they have the longest time to be watching TV. I do understand however how elderly people are not usually associated with technology, therefore during my program I will focus on how technology has adapted and changed rather than how to use technology and what it is.

I will present my program in a creative way rather than having a boring, plain documentary. The main presenter will look through a photo album and the camera will zoom into different photos showing the presenter at different ages with different pieces of technology. The program will progress in chronological order, so the start of the photo album will be when the presenter is young and the end of the album will be when the present is much older.

My program will be an hour long and it will be filmed in three different episodes. It will air Weekdays at 9pm.
