What to include?

What to include in an advert:

  • Celebrity endorsement.

Walkers crisps use Gary Lineker to advertise their product. This is because Gary Lineker is a very enthusiastic and respected British footballer. Having a footballer advertise an un-healthy product makes the audience believe that the product is more healthy than it actually is.

  • Demonstration

The Colgate advert shows someone using the product and statistics are used to prove that the product is worthwhile.

  • Identification

By having a storyline  or a situation in the advert the audience can give a preferred reading. If the audience feels emotional to an advert they can become attached and more likely to buy the product.

  • Humor

Humor will entertain the audience and make the advert more entertaining.

  • Alliteration/ repetition

This makes the advert more rememberable.

  • Exaggeration
  • Psychological

The Media Triangle

Scottish Film Council

The media triangle consists of the producer/ production, the audience and the media text. The producer gets in contact with the audience through research, targeting and communication. The audience is linked to the text to give a preferred/ intended or alternative reading, and through feedback and development. On the other hand the text is linked with the producer through research, paper work, idea development and production. It is important that these three main headings are connected as without one of these headings a media text can not be completed to an acceptable level.

In addition to this, the four technical elements to creating a media text are:

  • Sound- digetic (sound that is recorded/ made at the scene), non-digetic (sound that is added such as soundtracks)
  • Mis en scene- location, lighting, set, props
  • Camera- format, movement, color
  • Editing- CGI, graphics, SFX
